Got up early, and was on a bicycle by 7:30. I spent over five hours really seeing Ayutthaya. This is a great place. I guess it was the capital of a big empire before the Burmese sacked it in 1767 (or there abouts). By the time I finished, I was really tuckered out. I was back in my room at 1pm covered in dust and sweat. I felt great though. Afterwards, I had a lazy day. I went to a bar/restaurant for a meal and a beer. I'm thinking to get up early tomorrow and take the bus to Sukhothai.
The first place I saw was Wat Phra Si Sanphet. I was the first one there, so I had the place to myself. It was pretty cool. Three large "chedi" stand out. I guess these house the ashes of some kings from the 14th century.
I also went to:
- Chantharakasem National Museum (It was OK)
- Wat Phra Mahathat (Big ruinous place. The cool thing is a large stone Buddha face that is embeded in a tree's root structure. No one knows how it got there.)
- Wat Suwan Dararam (This one was pretty. Actually two buildings. But by now, I figure I've seen enough big gold Buddhas.)
I'll have to get round to uploading some pictures soon. I can't believe I've only had three full days in Thailand. I feel like I've done so much.
